For more than 100 years, the Insurance Federation of Minnesota has successfully evaluated, and advocated legislation and policies needed to help evolve our state's property/casualty insurance industry. Our member driven organization, as the voice of insurance at the Capitol, advocates for our companies and their policyholders.

The Insurance Federation of Minnesota is a non-profit state insurance trade association representing companies and other related organizations that write the majority of property/casualty insurance in Minnesota.
The IFM was founded in 1914 to help insurers deal with the Minnesota State Legislature on issues related to the state's workers' compensation insurance program.
Since that time, the IFM has been the leading advocate and resource for insurance in Minnesota.
The IFM, based in Bloomington, Minnesota, represents companies with many different lines of insurance including auto, business, commercial, homeowners', reinsurance, renters', and workers' compensation.

The Minnesota Legislature convenes each odd numbered year in January.
During even-numbered years, the Legislature has some leeway on convening, but they generally begin sometime between late January and early March.
In all years, they are constitutionally required to adjourn in mid-May.
During the time when the Legislature is in session, the IFM is a constant presence around the Capitol.
We are always working and meeting with legislators and staff to inform and update them on bills working through the process that impact the insurance industry.

Working in a regulated industry, means having a solid working relationship with your regulator.
The IFM is in regular contact with commissioners and staff at the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry along with other agencies.
These relationships allow us to hear from them on changes they are looking to pursue as well as being a resource when they have questions.
This open communication allows for us to advocate on behalf of member companies when they have issues or questions with the Department.

One of the most impactful things that can happen during the discussion over a piece of legislation, is to hear from a constituent who can relay how the change will positively or negatively impact themselves of their business.

The IFPAC exists to help elect candidates to office who support or are likely to support the growth and continued success of the insurance industry in Minnesota.
The IFPAC allows us to pool individual contributions from our members and give them to legislators on both sides of the aisle who support us.
The IFPAC would not be possible without people like you.
If you have questions about giving or how to get started, please reach out to IFM President/CEO Aaron Cocking.
