In the late 1960s, Gauerke joined forces with Homer Borgstedte and Scott Spradlin, both leading experts in the insurance industry, and together they formed GBS Insurance Agency - taking the first letter of each of their names - as well as an homage to the way in which the State of Texas rated all insurance policies, through the General Basis Schedule (nicknamed the GBS).
