In 1995 Farmers Insurance Group decided to exit the Farm & Ranch class of Business. They researched various companies, and decided to roll the entire book of business to Commercial Union Insurance Company (or QBE), and now doing business with American Reliable. Since CU operates under the independent brokerage system rather than the captive agent system they asked Farmers to designate a manager or General Agent in the various states to act as a broker for them.
These brokers would deal with the sub-producer as a broker. At that time the broker could deal only with Farmers agents and only the one product offered. Now we are excited to announce a new partnership with Global Indemnity, doing business as American Reliable/Bankers Insurance Company. With the ability to write in certain other states outside of California, with the main operation in California.
Ed Morga, Farmers District Manager, became the broker (then called the Gateway agent) in California. Ed built the operation into the number one Gateway Agency in the United States, before partially retiring and passing on the reigns to Gary Medlin, 20 year Insurance & Financial Services veteran, who also worked for Farmers Insurance for 6 years.
