Services
Medicare will pay its share of the Medicare-approved amount for covered health care costs.
A Medigap policy is different from a Medicare Advantage Plan.
Those plans are ways to get Medicare benefits, while a Medigap policy only supplements your Original Medicare benefits.
You pay the private insurance company a monthly premium for your Medigap policy.
You pay this monthly premium in addition to the monthly Part B premium that you pay to Medicare.
A Medigap policy only covers one person.
If you and your spouse both want Medigap coverage, you'll each have to buy separate policies.
Medicare prescription drug coverage is an optional benefit offered to everyone who has Medicare.
Generally, you'll pay this penalty for as long as you have Medicare prescription drug coverage.
To get Medicare drug coverage, you must join a Medicare plan that offers prescription drug coverage.
Each plan can vary in cost and drugs covered.
When you first enroll in Medicare and during certain times of the year, you can choose how you get your Medicare coverage.
There are 2 main ways to get your Medicare coverage-Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C).
Some people need to get additional coverage, like Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) or Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap).
Medically necessary services: Services or supplies that are needed to diagnose or treat your medical condition and that meet accepted standards of medical practice.
The Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program is a New York State program for seniors administered by the Department of Health.
It helps more than 327,000 income-eligible seniors aged 65 and older to supplement their out-of-pocket Medicare Part D drug plan costs.
Seniors can apply for EPIC at any time of the year and must be enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in a Medicare Part D drug plan to receive EPIC benefits and maintain coverage.
EPIC provides secondary coverage for Medicare Part D and EPIC-covered drugs purchased after any Medicare Part D deductible is met.
