I am proud to represent De Smet Farm Mutual Insurance products to the Mitchell and surrounding communities. Having grown up on a farm south of Carpenter and graduating from Iroquois High School, De Smet Farm Mutual's home office in De Smet was like having them as a next door neighbor. It is a company that I have known about my entire life. My cousin, Del, worked for De Smet Farm Mutual's home office for many years and now I am excited to carry on my family's name as one of their agents.
One of the things that makes De Smet Farm Mutual stand out is their philosophy "Serving South Dakota from South Dakota". Decisions are made locally so when your policy is submitted, reviewed and issued, a South Dakotan made the decisions. When your insurance rates are set, they are set by South Dakotans. When you have a claim, South Dakotans are there to help get you back to being whole.
Our Farm/Ranch policy covers your residence and personal property as well as your personal and farm liability. This policy may also cover your farm buildings, machinery and livestock.

Services
I have lived in Mitchell since 1979, coming here to attend Dakota Wesleyan University.
I graduated as president of my senior class with a degree in Business Administration.
Most of my career has been in banking management or insurance sales and service and have been identified as an agent that provides customers with an outstanding customer experience.
In the Mitchell community, I have served or am currently serving on the Wesley Acres Foundation Board and their Board of Trustees.
I have taught Sunday school for junior high age students for many years at the First United Methodist Church and have served as the Chairman of our Finance Committee, Vice Chairman of the Staff Parrish Committee, Lay Leader and on their Board of Trustees, as well as other volunteer positions within the church.

You may have noticed the small but attractive tan brick building at 110 E. Second Street that has Mitchell's only gargoyles and a 36 foot wide stained glass transom window spanning the front.
The interior has a mezzanine along the length of the back wall.
It was built as a bank building in 1916 and currently houses Kelly Gross's insurance agency.
It was built by George E. Logan (my grandfather) for local banker O.L. Branson.
Fortunately my grandfather commissioned prominent Minneapolis architects Purcell and Elmslie, leading proponents of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Prairie School of Architecture to design it.

De Smet Farm Mutual Insurance Company of South Dakota has a long and consistent history of providing insurance coverage for the people of South Dakota since 1916.
De Smet Farm Mutual was formed by a small group of farmers at a time when the large, well-established insurance companies weren't interested in coming to the prairies of South Dakota to write insurance.
As rural life in South Dakota improved, the appetites of the outside insurance companies increased for South Dakota business and so eventually they came into the state for our insurance business.
