Humphrey, Covill & Coleman Insurance Agency, Inc., as it is now known, was founded in 1926 by Ernest J. Humphrey and Raymond F. Covill, both former Liberty Mutual Insurance Company employees. In 1948 following his graduation from Yale University and a brief tour of duty as a Naval Officer and an employee of INA, Philip L. Coleman, Humphrey's nephew, joined the agency and shortly after that the partnership became "Humphrey, Covill & Coleman".
After a career that spanned 39 years, Coleman as President retired from the agency in 1987. Upon graduation from Brown University, and a tour of duty with the U.S. Army, Raymond A. Covill, joined the agency in 1956. Raymond Covill is a past director of Independent Insurance Agents of Massachusetts. Covill's son, Peter Covill, joined the agency in 1984.
