Forrest Max (Max) Bishop founded the F. Max Bishop Insurance Agency in the year 1962 by selling Crop Hail Insurance through Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance, home office located in Des Moines, Iowa. He enjoyed learning and visiting with area farmers and neighbors about farming operations. In the early 1980's Max sold his agency to People's Company of Indianola and worked out of the bank building on the east side of the Indianola square.

After a few years he purchased the agency back from People's Company and moved into the location on the corner of highway 92 and Howard Street which had been known as the Super America gas station. After moving into and remodeling the new location Max realized he needed someone to help with the phone, filing, and longer office hours. Rain and Hail Insurance Services, LLC approached Max about the possibility of selling Federal Crop Insurance (MPCI).

He agreed to sell this type of insurance and enjoyed meeting producers from all over the county and state. Jo (Bishop) Reynolds, daughter, was out of college and was working for the Farmers Home Administration office in Winterset, Iowa as Office Manager.
