State of Hawaii Captive Insurance Branch provides information on formation and implementation procedures for Hawaii Captives as well as information for risk retention groups.
Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management, a professional discipline that protects physical, financial and human resources.
RIMS annual conference is attended by over 10,000 insurance professionals.
Pure captives - A company that is a wholly-owned insurance subsidiary and usually insures the risk of its parent and affiliates.
Group captives - A company that insures the risk of the member organizations of the sponsoring associate and its affiliates.
Rent-a-captive - An entity whose owner is not necessarily the insured.
The owner posts the capital, and then rents out space within the facility to outside parties who wish to participate in a captive without owning it.
Cost Reduction - A captive can reduce the overall cost of an insurance program by retaining the premium for the expected losses thereby avoiding the premium loading for a commercial insurer's overhead and profit.
The Hawaii Captive Insurance Council (HCIC), a nonprofit corporation since 1991, is committed to promoting, developing, and maintaining a quality captive insurance industry in the State of Hawaii.
In partnership with the State of Hawaii Insurance Division, the HCIC provides information and education on issues affecting captives, and assists the State of Hawaii in promoting Hawaii as a quality captive domicile on the local, national and international level.
Guided by the Aloha spirit, the HCIC unifies and supports captive owners, regulators, legislators and captive service providers.
Jamie Asato is an Assurance Managing Director at Accuity LLP.
She specializes in serving insurance and retail clients and oversees Accuity's captive insurance practice.
Jamie has over 15 years of experience auditing captive insurance companies.
She received her BABA from Seattle University and is a CPA licensed in Hawaii.
Jamie has served a HCIC's past Secretary and Assistant Treasurer.
David has served as the Director of Risk Management for the Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK) companies - including Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air and McGee Air Services for the past decade.
The following committees keep the HCIC moving forward into the new millennium by organizing the multitude of HCIC functions, expanding the benefits offered to HCIC members, and working tirelessly to fulfill the HCIC's mission.
