Services
If you are an organization that sends groups overseas, you have two major risk management goals.
One is the health and safety of your travelers.
The second is the protection of your mission, the reason you are in business.
Your travel insurance program should not only respond to traveler emergencies, it should also support your business operations and your reputation, help keep your costs low, and delight your customers.
We know the construction of travel insurance that works best for groups like yours, based on years of experience with all kinds of organizations.
It's not your imagination.
It really is confusing.
There can be all sorts of entities involved in a single travel insurance policy.
Here's how it all fits together.
Insurance companies.
There is a small group of insurance companies who regularly write travel medical insurance for groups in the US, with a somewhat larger list operating outside the US.
It's remarkably different from the much more extensive travel insurance marketplace for individuals.
The insurance company is the risk-taker, the entity actually standing behind the promise to pay claims.
What is the major goal for travel organizations around buying travel insurance?
Quality control.
Great Organization is running a program in which World Traveler is enrolled.
World Traveler may be a student doing academics for many months, or a volunteer devoting several weeks to helping out in the field, or a corporate employee making the most of a short trip.
World Traveler is going overseas, but it could be to a country that is geographically and culturally very close to home, or possibly very remote.
Initially we think, how hard can this be?
But two issues often get in the way.
First, whenever you make a selection of a benefit or a limit on behalf of somebody else, it can be a source of liability.
This is why organizations often buy higher limits and more coverage than they really want to.
It was a major incentive to our creation of Core Travel Insurance, because travelers under that program can adjust many of their own limits.
But typically when you're considering medical insurance limits that apply to all travelers, consider the most expensive place that your travelers go, and engineer backwards from there.
