Insurance By The Woods
Our corporate office, originally Columbia Gorge Insurance Agency, was founded by Robert Fraley in the 1960s. He eventually retired and sold the business to James Church in 2001. James in turn sold the agency to our current owners, Maggie and Norm Wood, in 2008. Maggie brought in her 20 years of insurance knowledge and the philosophy that became our mission statement: "Bringing excellent insurance products to our communities, one individual, one policy at a time."

Maggie and Norm bought Freed Insurance Group in 2010 and Aahsome 3 Insurance in 2013. This opened up our reach from just the Columbia Gorge area to Western Washington and the Willamette Valley. Hold us to the high standard of service we strive for - we hope you'll provide your comments on how we're doing either online or drop Maggie a note via US Mail.

We know that you rely on us to protect your most valuable treasures, including family, home, cars, and finances. So, as an old motto went, "Trust us and be Freed of your insurance woes."
Services
Insuring our local communities for over 20 years.
Insurance by the Woods is a family owned and operated, independent insurance agency with offices in The Dalles, OR, Chehalis and Onalaska, WA.
Our corporate office, originally Columbia Gorge Insurance Agency, was founded by Robert Fraley in the 1960s.
He eventually retired and sold the business to James Church in 2004.
James in turn sold the agency to our current owners, Maggie and Norm Wood, in 2006.
Maggie had started in insurance as an agent in 1980, and moved to management at a larger agency in the mid 1990s.
What is auto insurance?
Auto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident.
It is a contract between you and the insurance company.
You agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy.
Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.
If you're in an accident or your car is stolen, it costs money, often a lot of money, to fix or replace it.
As a business owner, you need the same kinds of insurance coverages for the car you use in your business as you do for a car used for personal travel.
In fact, many business people use the same vehicle for both business and pleasure.
If the vehicle is owned by the business, make sure the name of the business appears on the policy as the "principal insured" rather than your name.
This will avoid possible confusion in the event that you need to file a claim or a claim is filed against you.
Whether you need to buy a business auto insurance policy will depend on the kind of driving you do and what you transport.
Because everyone's needs are not the same, it is best to consult your agent to help assess your needs and find the insurance policy that is right for you.
What is Homeowners insurance?
Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters.
A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.
Homeowners insurance is a package policy.
This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people.
With renters insurance, you will be able to replace what is damaged or stolen.
Renters insurance covers your possessions against losses from fire or smoke, lightning, vandalism, theft, explosion, windstorm, and water damage from plumbing.
However, renters insurance does not cover floods, earthquakes or routine wear and tear.
You can, however, buy separate policies for flood and earthquake damage.
If you are forced out of your home because of a disaster your additional living expenses will be covered.
