Open Enrollment for the Marketplace is over for 2021. People who are covered under Parts A and B often buy "Medigap" insurance to pay for things not covered by Medicare, such as deductibles and copayments.

Letter or document from employer stating the employer changed, dropped or will drop coverage or benefits for the employee, spouse or dependent, including the date coverage ended or will end.
Divorce or annulment papers including the ending of health care responsibility and proof of prior qualifying health coverage within the last 60 days.
Death certificate or public notice of death and proof of prior qualifying health coverage within the last 60 days.
The federal law specifically states that businesses and individuals are not required to purchase health insurance through the Marketplace or Health Exchange.
The purpose of the Exchanges is to permit individuals and small employers (with 100 or fewer employees) to purchase "qualified health insurance coverage."
If a State creates an Exchange within one year of enactment, the State may receive federal grant funding to assist it to establish the Exchange.
The plan must offer five benefit categories: bronze, silver, gold, platinum and a separate catastrophic plan option.
A health savings account (HSA) is a tax-exempt trust or custodial account that you set up with a qualified HSA trustee to pay or reimburse certain medical expenses you incur.
You must be an eligible individual to qualify for an HSA.
You can claim a tax deduction for contributions you, or someone other than your employer, make to your HSA even if you do not itemize your deductions on Form 1040.
Contributions to your HSA made by your employer (including contributions made through a cafeteria plan) may be excluded from your gross income.
If you become entitled to elect COBRA continuation coverage when you otherwise would lose group health coverage under a group health plan, you should consider all options you may have to get other health coverage before you make your decision.
One option may be "special enrollment" into other group health coverage.
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), if you or your dependents are losing eligibility for group health coverage, including eligibility for continuation coverage, you may have a right to special enroll (enroll without waiting until the next open season for enrollment) in other group health coverage.
