Services
Auto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident.
It is a contract between you and the insurance company.
You agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy.
Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.
Comprehensive and Collision coverages are the two main coverages that provide physical coverage for your vehicle.
Most companies provide limited coverage for property damage for small boats such as canoes and small sail boats or small power boats with less than 25 mile per hour horse power under a homeowners or renters insurance policy.
Coverage is usually about $1,000 or 10 percent of the home's property value and generally includes the boat, motor and trailer combined.
Liability coverage is typically not included-but it can be added as an endorsement to a homeowners policy.
Check with your insurance representative to find out if your boat is covered and what the limits are.
Property insurance compensates you if the property you use in your business is lost or damaged as the result of various types of common "perils" such as fire or theft.
Property insurance covers not just a building or structure but also what insurers call "personal property, " meaning office furnishings, inventory, raw materials, machinery, computers and other items vital to your business operations.
Property insurance can do more than protect your physical assets.
It may also provide operating funds during a period when you are trying to get the business back on track after a catastrophic loss.
As a businessowner, you need some of the same insurance coverages for the cars, trucks, vans or other vehicles you use in your business as you do for vehicles used for personal travel.
Your Businessowners Policy (BOP) does not provide any coverage for vehicles, so you must have a separate policy.
Most states require you to purchase liability insurance for bodily injury and property damage that may result from a vehicle accident occurring while you or someone from your organization is driving on business.
Professionals that operate their own businesses need professional liability insurance in addition to an in-home business or businessowners policy.
This protects them against financial losses from lawsuits filed against them by their clients.
Professionals are expected to have extensive technical knowledge or training in their particular area of expertise.
They are also expected to perform the services for which they were hired, according to the standards of conduct in their profession.
If they fail to use the degree of skill expected of them, they can be held responsible in a court of law for any harm they cause to another person or business.
