OVIA Insurance Agencies
Oswego Valley Insurance Agencies, LLC (OVIA) was founded in 1997 upon the merger of two longstanding local insurance agencies, Dowd & Harrington, Inc. and Streeter & VanSanford, Inc. Our existence goes back generations forming their first agency in 1876. Since the merger, we have purchased the business of the Whorrall Agency in Phoenix, the Hollister Agency in Mexico, the Bartlett Agency in Oswego, the Banach Agency in Pulaski, the Bogardus Agency in Morristown as well as opening new offices in Clayton and Brewerton.

Our insurance agency maintains 5 offices in Oswego, Onondaga and Jefferson County - including Oswego, Fulton, Brewerton, Mexico, and Clayton - servicing clients all over the State of New York and Pennsylvania. Our local, friendly staff has years of experience in the Central, Northern and Western New York markets, and they're committed to providing fast, affordable, and comprehensive insurance coverage.

Renting?

Because everyone's needs are not the same, it is best to consult your agent to help assess your needs and find the insurance policy that is right for you.
You're required by law to carry auto insurance.
So you may not think it makes a difference if you get it from a talking lizard, a comic spokesperson, or a locally owned insurance provider like us.
If all insurance is alike, what difference does it make where you get your coverage-just shop around for the best price, right?
We've seen our share of accidents.
But out of all the claims we see on a daily basis, few are as frequent, or as potentially life changing, as accidents involving an automobile.
You never know when it might rain.
So just like the name implies, this type of policy acts like an umbrella, providing protection against a wide range of potential financial dangers, and unforeseeable mishaps.
However, what exactly is covered by your umbrella policy depends on how you decide to set it up.
Yes, your existing insurance may protect you to an extent, but an umbrella policy goes much further for less cost than upping the limits on your existing policy because it covers for different types of risks.
As a renter, you've got it pretty good: No property taxes, no lawn cutting, no snow removal.
Just simple living!
But what would you do if you returned from work, or a vacation, and all your possessions in your apartment had been destroyed by a fire?
Or if there was a break-in and some of your most expensive stuff was stolen?
You may think that the building owner's insurance will take care of all the damage caused by a fire.
Your building owner is only required to carry insurance for the structure.
Getting out on the water in your boat, jet ski, or other watercraft is likely one of your favorite places to be.
But owning a boat can increase liability risks (even when you're on dry land.)
Let's make sure your "financial boat" doesn't sink should you hit any unforeseen crosswinds or rough water.
The fact is, homeowner's policies usually place numerous restrictions on boat owners depending on the size, horsepower, and damage coverage you expect.
In other words, if you don't carry a specific boat insurance policy, you are probably underinsured, which can make for troubled waters if you lose control of your craft, sustain damage or sink, or a guest causes an accident.
