Services
There are certain required elements on a parking violation summons that the issuing officer must establish.
Basically this is a proper identification of the vehicle, and of the violation.
If you notice an omission, improper placement, or a wrong description of the vehicle, it must be dismissed as technically defective.
If a summons has been served and all information is correct you have 30 days to enter a plea.
This serves as your first notice.
You may request an appeal of a Judge's guilty decision by filing a notice of appeal.
Dealing with the New York City Parking Violations Operations (PVO) can be confusing and frustrating.
That is one of the reasons the State Legislature passed a law making it easier for motorists to dispute defective parking tickets.
As a result of this law, motorists can have a parking ticket dismissed if it is incomplete, illegible, misdescribed or is missing information.
Motorists can now look up a parking ticket, fight a summons, pay a parking violation or request a hearing and submit their defense at the PVO website: www.nyc.gov/finance.
Q: Should I buy the insurance that a rental car company offers to protect myself against liability for damage to the rented vehicle in the event of an accident?.
A: New York state law prohibits the sale of such insurance on vehicles rented within the state.
It also prohibits the rental company from holding you liable for more than a $100 deductible, except for a few limited cases, such as driving while under the influence of alcohol.
A: It's not necessary, as long as you have a New York auto insurance policy on your own car.
This report looks at how to buy or lease a car, and includes an overview and sections on buying a new car, customer satisfaction, leasing a car, buying a used car, and typical costs.
Whether you buy or lease, new or used, the more your practical side prevails, the better your chances of getting the best transportation at the lowest price.
New or used?
Industry sources estimate that nearly two out of every three cars sold last year were used cars.
It's easy to see why.
Compared with a good-quality used car, a new car is a poor investment.
A: Professional car thieves can break into a car and drive it away in less than two minutes.
This occurs every 22 seconds somewhere in the United States.
Auto theft costs Americans more than $7 billion annually, and one out of 43 registered motorists will be a victim of auto theft in the course of a year.
Preventing vehicle theft is everyone's responsibility.
Police, government officials, insurers, consumer groups, vehicle manufacturers and other citizens are working together in a cooperative effort to prevent auto theft and fraud.
